About being a visitor

Being a school visitor is a very rewarding experience. Exposing young people to new ideas is both a privilege and a responsibility. Our service is deliberately non-confrontational and cooperative so that we can work in harmony with young people, teachers and group leaders.

You'd need to be free during the day, though there is call for visits during evenings and weekends too. Other than that, a willingness to stand up in front of a group of young people, an ability to explain the ideas behind veganism effectively and in an engaging way, patience and not minding answering the same questions over and over again. Being able to do cookery demos is really useful too!

Previous experience doing something similar, like public speaking or working with young people, is a definite advantage though not essential. Candidates must attend a training/induction day before they can speak on behalf of the Vegan Society.

Being a Vegan Society visitor is voluntary, so although we can’t pay you we can usually cover your expenses if the hosts are unable to.
